What distinguished Artists say about Mariano's artwork & paintings
Artist and Editor (National Museum in Warsaw, Poland) – Jennifer Tymowska;
Mariano is an exceptional artist whose attention to detail and respect for traditional painting methodology is outstanding. His knowledge of the techniques of the Renaissance masters is encyclopedic – however, he also puts this knowledge into practical use by grinding, preparing, formulating and mixing his own paints, at times incorporating precious materials rarely used today.
While he is known as a realist painter, his lyrical side brings out the surrealist in him and his works always contain an extra layer of symbolism that challenges the viewer to take another look. From his playful landscapes to meticulously detailed portraits, there is a painting to please the discerning collector. Mariano can indeed be called a ‘Modern Master’.
Fine Artist Terrence Desjardins;

Art Educator - Susan Temcheff;
"Intriguing. Mesmerizing. Playful really. A little tease or trickery to grab your attention. Mariano's works of art are much more than colourful textures and patterns. They compel you to test your imagination. Of course his canvases are a vivid tapestry of brilliant colours in complex compositions, but they are worthy of more than a casual glance to fulfill your need for art in your life. They compel you to look again. Once you begin to see some of the mystery that takes place in his work, you will go home with more questions that will tempt you to go back and back and back again, and yes - you will have to have one in your home".
Fine Artist Michael Labiak;
“You exemplify this in your painting - fine Art is that in which the hand, the head, and the heart of man go together."
Fine Artist Janice Kersey;
“As one can easily see from viewing his art, Mariano is passionate about his paintings. He takes great care in selecting superior materials that produce quality results. From portraits to landscapes Mariano’s skills are apparent in everything he does. His colour palette brings life to his work. It is a joy to view Mariano’s works of art!”
Fine Artist Dennis K. Smith;
“Mariano’s is a diversely talented artist whose art manifests the strong influence of the craftsmanship of the early renaissance masters and the luminous works of the early 19th century Netherlandish painters. Yet his use of saturated colour to heighten contrast, combined with abstract and simplified shapes, carried out in the style of group of seven artist; Lawren Harris, is clearly seen in some of his landscapes. The above mentioned can also be seen in the subtle tonal changes within the fold within the clothing and details within his portraits. His application of vivid translucent colour adds that glow within his subjects. If I had to choose a favorite it would be “Portrait of Allister” I love the composition and the execution of all the different textures seen in this painting.”
Fine Artist Katrina Rutter;
“Mariano Klimowicz is a meticulous craftsman- proficient in all areas of oil painting from building his own quality archival grounds and supports, to the application of paint in his unique style that mingles on the edge of Realistic Art and Surrealism, bringing an emotional level to his paintings that captivate the viewer. From landscapes to ball room dancers, Mariano portrays life in a skillful and stylistic manner.”
Fine Artist Francis Lucier;
“Mariano’s work is detailed and thought provoking. Many of his paintings tell a story, be it a scene he witnessed in a park, a painting derived from history or Greek mythology, or even an event or scene concocted from his own often whimsical imagination. Regardless of the subject matter, his canvasses are meticulously prepared, with much time spent preparing the ground and the support on which his subject is rendered in oils using traditional and time-tested methods. His paintings reflect his “joie de vivre”, and it is truly evident that he enjoyed creating each of his unique works”.

About the painting process
Mariano paints with passion in the "Grand Tradition" of oil painters. His painting practice follows in the ways of centuries old traditional painting organic methods and techniques. Mariano uses quality materials: building and stretching his own canvases from Belgian Linens , then sizing the canvas and making his own oil ground emulsions. He also builds his own panels from Baltic birch, Mahogany, Walnut & Oak and cradles them in poplar or red oak. The panels are then applied with sizing followed by a ground made from an ancient oil emulsion formula. Mariano renders comprehensive studies of his subject matter; he applies them to a full compositions drawing before transferring the image to the canvas or panel. He does a full coat under-painting in a mono pigment (grisaille or verdaille or iron oxide). Then he starts the glazing process, slowly blocking in compositional elements from dark to light. Mariano blends his own mediums and glazes from raw materials. He uses artist high quality oil pigments - these follow archival light-fast permanent painting practices that will last. He continues with many layers of glazing and other painting techniques such as scumbling, impasto, chiaroscuro, sfumato and stippling. Other techniques are traditional secrets developed over the years. The painting is meticulously finished in details until the artist is satisfied before his signature is applied. The painting is sealed after the oil has oxidized with damar varnish. Is Mariano a master artist...... Mariano believes that the patron needs to connect to the art by telling a narrative with a complete composition. Mariano’s paintings express his understanding and the depth of experience that the artist in him is conveying to his audience. “Art is in all of us, immerse yourself in the expression and experience, that is the canvas of life”.
